  Highlights:

 Department of Economics was established in 1992 & Post Graduate courses were started form 2003.The department of Economics is a recognized research center in Economics.

The Department of Economics recognizes the growing demand for trained manpower in industry, government & other sectors as well as the need for basic research in economics. The department offers a two years’ Postgraduate course in economics [M.A.], one year M.Phil. programme, partly by papers & partly by research in Economics & Ph.D. Centre in Economics.

The Department has a very well equipped library and a computer center with separate internet facilities for the use of research students.

 

Future Plans of the Department:

The department is in the process of increasing its research base, conduct public lectures & seminars for professionals as well as common people.

 

Eligibility & Selection Procedure for Admission:

 As per Savitribai Phule University rules and regulations.

 

Course Structure

The M.Phil. programme is a full time degree of one-year duration, consisting of three papers and one dissertation.

1. Research Methodology & Quantitative Technique.
2. Advance & Economics Theory
3. Modern Indian Economy

 

Marks & Evaluation:

Each paper will carry 100 marks. The marks for each paper are divided as internal & Examinations comprise of tests, assignments, seminar, presentations & term end examination. At the end of the first year, each paper has 50 marks written examination. For passing in each course, a candidate must secure 40 percent marks in the aggregate.

 

 Attendance:

Full time attendance of students is must. A student with less than 80 percent attendance will not be allowed to sit in the final examination.

The Research Centre in Economics is a recognized research centre by Savitribai P{hule Pune University. It offers Ph.D. programme in Economics.

 

Facilities Offered at the Research Centre:

The Research Centre has a very well equipped computer centre with separate internet facility and rich library.

Admission:

The Candidates who are seeking admission for Ph.D. are required to clear the entrance examination to held on twice a year by Savitribai Phule University (SPPU). The application form will be available on the website http://phd.unipune.ernet.in Candidates should fill up the online application form and send hard copy of the application form along with bank DD and the other documents.

 

Admission Procedure

 For Entrance Examination:

 

Paper-1: Research Apptitude Test for 100 marks and each correct answer carries 1 mark, no negative marking syatem. It consists of 3 Parts:

1. Language Competency,
2. Numerical Ability,
3. Logical Reasoning

 

Paper -2: is Subject specific paper of 100 marks and it consists multiple choice questions(MCQs) for 20 marks and theoretical or descriptive questions for 80 marks.

 

Exemption from Written Test:

Candidates who have qualified GATE/SET/NET/JRE/M.Phil. examination of apex bodies such as CSIR/UGC/ICRA/ICMR/DBT are exempted from appearing for the written examinations. They are eligible for Personal Interview at the Research Centre.

 

Personal Interview:

Those who have passed in entrance examination or those who are exempted from the entrance exam can apply for the personal interview. Personal Interview will carry 100 marks and university committee will engage this interview. Selected candidates may apply to Registrar, Savitribai POhule University(SPPU), in the prescribed application form along with prescribed fee and eight copies of his/her Ph.D. proposal, through the research centre. On ascertaining the eligibility of the applicat and the recommendation of the guide, the research centre shall provisionally admit the student. The Admission will be confirmed after the Research and Recognition committee approves the topic.

 48 Students awarded Ph D Degree from the research Centre and 160 Students awarded M. Phil Degree from the research Centre.
